Austin Restaurant You MUST Try- Uncle Billy’s

June 10, 2007

Single Pointe Realty wants YOU to get involved!  Each month, we will be selecting a local restaurant to review and we want YOU to try it out with us!  When you see an article urging you to try a restaurant, go try it out!  Then, head back to Single Pointe Realty’s Austin Blog and write your own review in the comments section of the Restaurant Review to be eligible for a $25 gift certificate to the selected restaurant. Sound good?  Let’s get started!

This week, we went to Uncle Billy’s Brew and Que on Barton Springs Road.  We went down to hit up Shady Grove, but a way-too-cool-for-us-concert was going on and no parking was to be found.  We accidentally stumbled upon Uncle Billy’s which is a brand new BBQ & Brewery here in town.
First off, we noticed the new feel with everything (the super clean bathrooms still smell like paint)!  The patio was a great size and Will Sexton happened to be rockin’ on their well-planned stage (see a video of Will Sexton at the bottom of this article).  We got to sit right behind the band, so it wasn’t too loud- we could enjoy some great live music (isn’t that the heart of the Austin experience?) yet could still chit chat easily.

It is offered as family style and you order meats by the half pound and they come with pickles, jalapenos, onions and bread (or tortillas or rolls).  Each half pound was only $5-7; very economical, especially for such a hip location! We expected the typical BBQ (we eat a lot at BBQ chains), but we got some of the best BBQ ever.  Now, I’m a Texan and I know BBQ- I lived near Salt Lick for a portion of my life, but this is a great alternative.  The chopped brisket wasn’t too spicy and the sliced brisket was the most popular (we ended up ordering more as desert).  I will say with confidence that the sausage is the absolute best sausage ever in the history of earth.  Seriously.  When you chew, you are surprised by little explosions of cheese and jalapenos.  We were nearly fighting over who got the last piece!

We didn’t drink, but we saw that inside was an entire brewery!  The highly polished vats were fun for the kids to look at behind glass, and most people there were drinking so I’m confident their beer is just as good as their awesome food.  When you go, go after sundown, wear your flip flops and chill on the patio with a beer and some of the best BBQ around.

Now it’s your turn- head over to Uncle Billy’s and be the first to write your own review through June to win a $25 gift certificate to our new favorite restaurant in Austin!

Happy Eating,
LA
