Town Lake Doesn’t Exist Any More!
August 27, 2007
You heard it here first folks, Town Lake (aka Lake Austin) does not exist any more! Well, the water is still there but it has officially been renamed to “Lady Bird Lake.” With the passing of Lady Bird Johnson, the City of Austin has officially renamed the part of the Colorado River that flows through downtown Austin, Texas after the former First Lady.
Lady Bird Johnson pioneered Green Living waaay before it was cool by founding the Texas Wildflower Center and pushing legislation for Texas beautification- you can thank her for the bluebonnets and indian paintbrushes on the sides of the highways in our beautiful state! She was a class act and it is well deserved that one of our city’s most popular features is named “Lady Bird Lake” in her honor. Get used to saying it, the maps are soon to change!
